Optimism Trial and We Feed You

Posted by We Feed You Author on

We Feed You partners with researchers to provide quality meals for the OPTIMISM trial, supporting the study of food's impact on mental health and gut health.

We Feed You has been working closely with Heidi Staudacher, Associate Professor, NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow at Monash University on the OPTIMISM trial. This trial compares two dietary patterns to assess their effects on depressive symptoms, anxiety, gut health (including microbiome composition and gut permeability), and inflammation in adults with and without depression. Participants from Melbourne and Geelong regions with depression and without — are randomly assigned to one of the two dietary patterns and provided with all meals and snacks for the duration of the study. The trial aims to improve understanding of how food influences depressive symptoms.

We Feed You's involvement is crucial for ensuring participant compliance in the OPTIMISM trial. By providing meals which meet the research criteria, We Feed You provides high quality meals which helps participants adhere to the study's prescribed diet. This in turn enhances the reliability of the results. We Feed You's expertise in meal preparation removes the burden of participants having to source or prepare their own meals, making it easier for participants to stick to the study protocol. At the same time, the dedicated handling of meal preparation enables researchers to concentrate fully on collecting data and analysing outcomes, rather than diverting time and resources to food logistics. This streamlined approach is essential for maintaining the integrity and focus of the research.
